About

Two plumbers, two trucks, one phone number

Willamette Plumbing Co. is Ray and Dana Mendoza. We have been asked plenty of times why we have not grown, and the honest answer is on this page.

Ray Mendoza

Founder, master plumberhe/him

Ray started the company in 2009 with one truck and a flip phone, after seventeen years working for other people. He has repiped most of the older streets in Canemah at least once. He is the one who will tell you your water heater has four good years left in it rather than sell you a new one.

Call them for

  • Repipes and whole-house work
  • Old houses and odd plumbing
  • Gas lines

Dana Mendoza

Journeyman plumber, runs the officeshe/her

Dana apprenticed under Ray, got her own license in 2016, and now runs the second truck and most of the business. She is usually the person who answers the phone, which means the person taking your call is a plumber and not a call center. She is faster on a drain camera than her father and he has stopped arguing about it.

Call them for

  • Drain diagnostics and camera work
  • Water heaters
  • Emergency calls

Credentials

Check us, and check everyone else

Oregon requires plumbing contractors to be licensed with the Construction Contractors Board, bonded and insured. You can look any contractor up on the CCB website in about thirty seconds, and you should — including us.

If a plumber cannot give you a CCB number, or offers to skip the permit on a water heater, that is the whole conversation right there.

How we got here

The short version

  1. 2009

    One truck

Ray left a big outfit that had started sending him to three jobs a day and pricing by the minute. He bought a used van, printed five hundred business cards and put a magnet on the door.

  2. 2016

    Dana gets her license

Four years of apprenticeship, then the journeyman exam. The second truck went on the road the same month, and the answering service went away for good.

  3. 2019

    The shop on Beavercreek

A yard, a parts room and somewhere to keep two water heaters on the shelf — which is why we can often replace yours the same day you call.

  4. Now

    Still two trucks

We get asked why we have not grown. The honest answer is that the day we hire a fourth plumber is the day you stop getting one of us, and that is the thing people actually pay us for.

Where we don't bend

We tell you when not to spend money
A working twelve-year-old water heater is a working water heater. We will tell you what to watch for and when to start budgeting, and then we will leave.
We do not work on commission
Nobody here is paid more for selling you a bigger job. That is not a moral position, it is just how the pay works, and it is worth asking any plumber the same question.
We pull the permit
For water heaters, repipes and gas work, every time. It costs a bit more and it means an inspector who does not work for us has looked at it.
We clean up
Boot covers on, drop cloths down, and the old unit goes with us. You should not be able to tell where we were except that the thing works.

Any of that you want to test, (503) 555-0187 is the number and one of us will answer it.

Talk to a plumber, not a script

Whichever of us picks up has been under a house this week. Ask us anything — including whether you actually need the work.
